Beiras - The most important inland cities in the Beiras region of Portugal are Coimbra, Leiria, Viseu, Castelo Branco, Guarda and Covilha with Figueira da Foz and Aveiro being coastal towns.  The Beiras region has three sub regions : Beira Alta, Beira Baixa and Beira Litoral.  The coastal region has long sandy beaches and there is a beautiful Pousada facing the lagoon at Aveiro. Coimbra is an old university city that is worth a visit particularly for those who enjoy Fado, a particular type of song which is unique to Portugal. Portugal started to export its wines to Rome during the Roman Empire. Modern exports developed with trade to England after the Methuen Treaty in 1703. From this commerce a wide variety of wines started to be grown in Portugal. And, in 1758, the first wine-producing region of the world, the Região Demarcada do Douro was created under the orientation of Marquis of Pombal, in the Douro Valley. Portugal has two wine producing regions protected by UNESCO as World Heritage: the Douro Valley Wine Region (Douro Vinhateiro) and Pico Island Wine Region (Ilha do Pico Vinhateira). Portugal has a large variety of native breeds, producing a very wide variety of different wines with distinctive personality.

Lisbon Region - The climate and the natural environment have always been exceptionally favourable making this region one of the most valued by tourists. During many years this region has been an exile for kings, aristocrats, actors and intellectuals: the Estoril majestic coast, the luxuriant Serra da Arrábida (Arrabida mountain range), unique for its natural beauty providing different outdoor activities, passing through the enigmatic town of Sintra, a romantic destiny, par excellence, and immortalized as the "glorious Eden" by the writer Lord Byron. The green sceneries, the mountains that contrast with the Ocean, the castle, the palaces, the houses and the local gastronomy, make this region one of the most pleasant destinies in Portugal.
