Évora fascinates for the history, its historical center, classified for UNESCO since 1986 as “Heritage of the Humanity”, is considered a model of preservation of the vestiges of the past. Estremoz, a beautiful town dominated by its medieval castle and 17th C walls. The castle of Estremoz is the result of the restoration of the magnificent palace that King D. Diniz built for his wife, Queen Santa Isabel.Castelo de Vide is a charming Alentejo village, located in a hill in the São Mamede Mountain range, in a place blessed by nature. The pituresque white houses come up and down the hill, with the Castle at the top, where centuries of history have left its legacy. 

 

Suggested Itinerary:

DAY 1 – LISBON

Arrival to Lisbon airport. Car pick up at Europcar desk and proceed to the hotel in Lisbon. Afternoon and evening dedicated to discover our capital city.
Suggested sites to visit are Belém quarter, the Castle of St. George and Alfama quarter, the Nations Park, Lisbon Downtown. Overnight in Lisbon.

DAY 2 – LISBON / ÉVORA / ESTREMOZ / CASTELO DE VIDE - 145 Kms.

Departure to Évora. Suggested visits are the ruins of the Roman Temple, the cathedral and St. Francis Church with its bizar Bones Chapel.,
Proceed to Estremoz, a beautiful town dominated by its medieval castle and 17th C walls. Late afternoon, arrival to Castelo de Vide. Overnight.

DAY 3 - CASTELO DE VIDE / MARVÃO / CASTELO BRANCO / COVILHÃ (or PENHAS DA SAÚDE) - 230 Kms

Walking tour in Castelo de Vide where you will find remarkable streets with 14th, 15th and 16th C houses. Carry on to Marvão a medieval small town on a mountain top. Drive to Castelo Branco, where a short stop to visit to the Royal Gardens is advised. Proceed to Covilhã, located in the lower slopes of Serra da Estrela mountain range. Overnight in Covilhã.

DAY 4 - PENHAS DA SAÚDE / MANTEIGAS /  VISEU / PORTO - 230 Kms

Departure to the highest point of Serra da Estrela mountain range - Torre - 2.000m high. Spectacular abrupt cliffs from where water springs forme beautiful cascades. Continue to Manteigas, a picturesque village, passing side by side to the most ancient  glacial valley in Europe. Drive to Viseu, one of the most important towns of Beira Alta province. At the end of the day arrival to Oporto. Overnight in Porto.

DAY 5 – PORTO - 20 Kms.

Sightseeing tour visiting the old Cathedral, the 19th Century Stock-Exchange Palace, the Church of Saint Francis, Ribeira are and of course the Porto wine cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia. Afternoon at leisure or shopping in Portos’ Downtown. Overnight in Porto.

DAY 6 - PORTO / COIMBRA / BATALHA / FÀTIMA - 250 Kms.

Departure to Coimbra, the most important city in the centre of Portugal. Recommended sites are the old Cathedral and the University with its remarkable 18th C royal library. Continue to Batalha and visit the 15th C monastery, World Heritage by UNESCO. Next stop is Alcobaça where you will get to see an imposing 12th C. Cistercian monastery. Proceed to Fátima, one of the largest pilgrimages centres in Europe.Overnight in Fátima.

DAY 7 – FÁTIMA /  ÓBIDOS / SINTRA / LISBON - 200 Kms.

Departure to Óbidos, a lovely whitewashed village surrounded by medieval walls. Drive to Sintra, world Heritage site by UNESCO. Spend some time exploring the enourmus historical and monumental resources of this charming small town. Proceed to Cabo da Roca,  the western most point of continental Europe and enjoy an unique scenary of the Atlantic Ocean. Drive towards Lisbon via Estoril and Cascais, one of the most beautiful stretches of Lisbon coast. Overnight in Lisbon.

DAY 8 - DEPARTURE.

Morning free for last visits in Lisbon.  Departure to Lisbon airport. Car delivery and flight chek-in.
