Essential Portugal - 5 days

Lisbon » Porto

In Belém area visits to the Monastery of Jerónimos and Belém Tower, symbols of Portugal's maritime expansion are a must. In the afternoon, visit Sintra and discover one of the most romantic villages of Portugal (World heritage by Unesco). Proceed your journey to Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of continental Europe.

 

Suggested Itinerary:

 

Day 1 – Arrival to Lisbon

Arrival to Lisbon's Airport. Car pick-up at EUROPCAR desk and proceed to the 3* Hotel  in Lisbon. Overnight.

Day 2 – Lisbon/Sintra/Cabo da Roca/Cascais/Estoril

Morning visiting Lisbon. In the old town, we suggest a visit to the Castle of St. George and the old district Alfama with its typical narrow alleys. In Belém area visits to the Monastery of Jerónimos and Belém Tower, symbols of Portugal's maritime expansion are a must. In the afternoon, visit Sintra and discover one of the most romantic villages of Portugal (World heritage by Unesco). Proceed your journey to Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of continental Europe. Return to Lisbon via Estoril and Cascais (coastline). Overnight at the hotel in Lisbon.

Day 3 – Lisbon/Obidos/Alcobaça/Nazare/Batalha/Fátima

Departure northwards to the lovely whitewashed and wall surrounded village of Óbidos. Proceed to Alcobaça where the highlight is the city’s’ 12th C. Monastery.  Continue towards Nazaré, a picturesque Portuguese fishing village. Drive to Batalha and visit the famous Monastery (world Heritage by UNESCO). Finally drive to Fátima, centre of Christian faith and world pilgrimage. Mass can eventually be attended. Overnight at a 3* Hotel/Pension in Fátima.

Day 4 – Fatima/Coimbra/Porto

Departure to Tomar, where the highlight is the Convent of Christ. Proceed to Coimbra the most important city in the centre of Portugal from a cultural point of view. Here you will find one of the most important and oldest universities of Europe. Recommended visits include the Universities’ royal library, the old and New Cathedrals, Santa Cruz Monastery among many others.  Drive to Oporto. 
Sightseeing musts are the old Cathedral, the 19th. Century Stock Exchange Palace, the Church of St Francis and of course the
Port wine cellars in Vila Nova Gaia. Overnight at a 3* Hotel in Oporto.

Day 5 – Departure to Oporto Airport.

Breakfast and check out. Drive to Oporto Airport. Car delivery and flight check in.
